Post-nasal drip and Sinus infection (Page 73)

By Eileen Renders

Most of us over 60 have heard that old rhyme: “The thigh bone is connected to the leg bone, the leg bone is connected to the ankle bone, etc.” A similar analogy can be expressed whenever we voice concern over the ear, nose, or throat, as they are all connected and can lead to ear itchiness or a sore throat, for example, from long-term postnasal drip often caused by allergies.

When seeing a Specialist, you might be offered surgery that has been shown to work approximately 50% of the time. Ouch! I passed on that offer. Being proactive with a chronic condition with one’s sinus issues requires us to be proactive. The first sign of a sinus headache or sore throat requires us to gargle with salt water and use a nasal saline wash or spray.
A sinus infection will require a visit to the doctor and possibly an antibiotic script. It is a good idea to pick up some throat lozenges once a sore throat has begun, such as Chlorasept or Sambuco.

Caution: With nasal sprays for a stuffy nose, always read the cautions and warnings on the boxes as some may not be advisable for those with heart conditions.

Flonase is safe and beneficial, but some grocery stores carry the generic brands at half the cost. Also, a safe and effective product that claims on its box that it is non-toxic, non-addictive, contains no drugs, and can even be given to a child. It is Xlear.
