Columbia, S.C. – Lake Murray has once again earned national recognition, receiving a nomination for Best Lake for Water Sports in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards — marking the second consecutive year the lake has been honored. After securing 2nd place in the 2024 awards, trailing only Lake Erie, the Lake Murray Country region is rallying support to claim the #1 spot in 2025.
Public voting is underway and runs through June 2, 2025, at 11:59 a.m. EST. Supporters can vote once daily via the USA Today 10Best website. Winners will be announced on June 11, 2025.
“This nomination reflects the vibrant community and natural beauty that make Lake Murray such a special place,” said Miriam Atria, President and CEO of Capital City/Lake Murray Country. “We’re proud to be recognized again and encourage everyone who loves the lake to vote daily and help us reach #1.”
Lake Murray is celebrated for its over 650 miles of shoreline, crystal-clear waters, and diverse recreational opportunities including kayaking, paddleboarding, jet skiing, wakeboarding, and boating. These features have helped cement its status as a premier destination for water sports enthusiasts in the Southeast and beyond.
Nominees for USA Today’s 10Best Awards are selected by a panel of travel experts, editors, and contributors with deep knowledge of each category. The final rankings are determined entirely by public vote.
With continued daily participation, the Lake Murray community has the chance to secure national recognition and demonstrate why it truly deserves the title of Best Lake for Water Sports in America.
