Sixth- and ninth-graders in Richland Two will get a head start on the new school year by participating in either Step-Up to Sixth or Fresh Start August 20. All district middle schools will host Step-Up to Sixth and high schools will host Fresh Start to help ease the transition from elementary to middle school or middle to high school.

“Transitioning to a new school can be a bit overwhelming for students.” Superintendent Dr. Baron Davis said. “To help our sixth-graders confidently step-up to middle school and our ninth-graders to positively start high school we want to give them an opportunity to become familiar with their new school before other students return.”

Step-Up to Sixth and Fresh Start are part of Richland Two’s commitment to providing supportive learning environments for student success.

“These opportunities are designed to provide resources so that students enter these transitional years feeling prepared and supported,” said Nancy Gregory, Chief Instructional Officer.

Students who ride the school bus will also have the opportunity to ride their new middle school or high school bus August 20. The Transportation Department will use the information families provide, through the online registration process, to update bus routes for the 2019-2020 school year. Families that have not already completed the online registration process are encouraged to do so. Parents should contact their child’s school with questions about the online registration process.

The August 20 Step Up to Sixth will be from 9 am to noon. Fresh Start will be from 8:30 am to 1 pm.

The official start the Richland Two school year is August 21.
