The Northeast came away with individual Class 5A titles this past Friday in Newberry.
University of South Carolina commit Emma Ashley of Westwood took first place in Division II with a time of 18:46.65.
“It means so much,” Ashley said. “This has been many years in the making. I started running cross-country in seventh grade. So, to have this be the way I close out my senior cross-country season just means the world.”
Westwood finished 11th overall in the Division II team standings.
In Division I, Brendon Hitchcock of Spring Valley beat out River Bluff’s Daniel Campbell to win the 5,000-meter final with a time of 15:55.48.
“It means all the work I put in pays off and I’m just happy to make my coach, my team, my parents proud,” Hitchcock said.
Jacob Powell and Eureka Washington finished seventh and 12th, respectively, and Macaire N’twa of Ridge View finished 10th to earn All-State honors.
Blythewood finished second overall to Dorman and Spring Valley was seventh in the team standings. The Lady Bengals placed second and Ridge View 13th in the Division I team standings.
