It was another action-packed three days of basketball at Ridge View High School with The Bash tournament completing a 12th year.
The host team went 1-2 at the event. It lost the opener 85-50 to Moravian Prep. University of South Carolina signee Eli Ellis had 28 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Abu Yarmah had 15 points and seven rebounds and Kohl Rosario finished with 14 points.
The next day marked a first-ever international contest at Ridge View. Drive Academy out of Finland faced the Blazers in a contest which was only open to the student body and school officials.
Drive Academy led as many as 18 points in the second quarter. Ridge View outscored Drive Academy 42-22 to the second half for the 68-65 victory.
Corbett led Ridge View with 24 points, followed by Malachi Cooper with 19, J.T. Vankallen added 12 points and seven rebounds and Davis finished with 10. The Blazers’ bench outscored Drive Academy 31-17.
The final day of “The Bash” saw Ridge View fall 73-67 to Huntington Prep. The Blazers held a 3-point lead through three quarters before they were outscored 13-7 over the final four minutes.
Corbett had a team-high 23 points, Davis had 13 and Cooper finished with 11 in the loss.
Northeast roundup
The Westwood boys basketball team continued its perfect start with two wins last week.
The Redhawks defeated Lakewood in overtime 48-40 on Dec. 11. Larry Brown had 14 points and five assists in the win.
A couple of nights later, Westwood beat Richland Northeast 48-42 behind 12 points and 18 rebounds from A.J. Veal. D’Marcus Thomas had 11 points and Jayden Crews finished with seven.
In girls action, the Lady Redhawks snapped a 3-game losing streak with a 44-39 win over Richland Northeast. Aneya Britt scored 19 points and Amari Alexander added nine points.
The Blythewood boys basketball team rebounded from its first loss of the season to River Bluff by routing Chapin 80-38. They improved to 8-1 on the season.
The Lady Bengals are 7-0 on the season. Junior guard/forward Chase Thomas is averaging a double-double (22 points, 10.3 rebounds per game), followed by point guard India Williams (16.4 points, 5.3 rebounds per game) and Hayley Hightower (15 points, 4.9 steals per game).
