Starting this Friday evening, May 31, motorists will face a temporary detour due to the closure of the ramp from I-126 Westbound to I-26 Eastbound. The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will implement this detour to safely transition traffic onto a newly completed permanent ramp. This change is part of the Carolina Crossroads Phase I project affecting Richland and Lexington Counties.
The detour will begin at 8 pm on Friday and remain in effect continuously until 5 am on Monday, June 3, when the new ramp is scheduled to open. However, dates are subject to change based on weather conditions.
Detour Instructions:
Drivers traveling from I-126 Westbound to I-26 Eastbound should:
- Take Exit 107A toward I-20 Westbound.
- Stay to the right within the interchange loop.
- Merge onto I-26 Eastbound toward Charleston.
A message board has been placed along I-126 Westbound before the Colonial Life Boulevard exit ramp and will stay in place throughout the detour to notify drivers of the new traffic pattern. Detour signage has also been installed along the route to guide motorists.
