Spring Valley will have another Megan in charge of the girls’ basketball program.
Richland County School Board Two approved the promotion of assistant coach Megan Davis. She succeeds Megan Assey, who stepped down after winning 181 games and leading the Lady Vikings to a state title in 2018.
Davis played on Spring Valley’s 2015 Class 4A championship team under Anne Long. She takes over a program that graduates five seniors and went 18-9 this past season competing in Region 5-5A.
“Megan Davis is the perfect choice to lead the Spring Valley girls basketball program,” Assey said. ‘Megan played under legendary coach Anne Long, won a state championship at Spring Valley and has been with us on staff the last five years.
Megan understands the game of basketball. But, more than anything, she is hard-working, loyal and a student of the game. Qualities that I define as being a success in the world of coaching. I am very proud of her and look forward to watching her success.”
Davis is the second girls basketball coach hired in the Northeast. Ridge View hired former Lower Richland girls basketball coach Aaron Lucas to replace Terrance Gibson, who’s now at Brookland-Cayce.
