Injuries to key offensive players have Ridge View and Richland Northeast heading in opposite directions.

On Friday, the Blazers routed Lugoff-Elgin 50-0 for their third straight victory. Quarterback Tre Howard threw for 275 yards and four touchdowns, two by Kristian Jackson, and Brad Wilson rushed for two scores.

Ridge View has won all three games without All-State wide receiver Jordon Gidron who’s recovering from a knee injury.

While the Blazers are tied for first place in Region 5-5A, Richland Northeast has dropped to third place in Region 3-4A. Without injured Shrine Bowl quarterback Will Wilson, the Cavaliers were defeated by A.C. Flora 44-7 for their second straight loss.

Wilson’s status for the Oct. 25 home game against York is uncertain.

In other Northeast action, Blythewood (6-2, 2-2) rallied from a 13-0 deficit, only to lose to West Florence 18-14. Quarterback John Henry Collins threw two touchdowns in defeat.

Westwood (4-3, 2-1) shut out Spring Valley 26-0 to hand the Vikings their 20th consecutive loss. Quentin McGill had 134 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns and the Redhawk defense had three interceptions.

In SCISA, a late touchdown enabled Laurence Manning Academy to defeat Cardinal Newman 33-26. Caleb Ford rushed for 301 yards and two touchdowns for the Cardinals (2-5, 1-3) , who suffered their third straight loss.

Ford currently leads the state in rushing with 1,337 yards.
