After 20 years on the sidelines, Ridge View girls basketball coach Terrance Gibson is calling it a career.
Gibson posted his announcement on social media Saturday night. The graphic included his 259 career wins, 10 players who were North/South All-Stars and 45 players who competed on the college level.
“After a lot of thought and reflection, I’ve made the very difficult decision to step down as head coach of girls basketball,” he posted.
A graduate of Keenan High School who played college basketball at VCU, Gibson arrived at Ridge View in 2006. In 19 seasons at the helm, Gibson led the Lady Blazers to two region titles.
This past season, Ridge View reached the third round of the Class 5A Division I Lower State playoffs. The Lady Blazers lost in four overtimes to Ashley Ridge, who were disqualified right after the game for an ineligible player.
Ridge View appealed to the South Carolina High School League Executive Committee to replace Ashley Ridge in the Lower State final. The committee voted 12-0 to deny Ridge View.
Gilbson is the second basketball coaching departure from Richland School District II this week. Spring Valley girls basketball coach Megan Assey resigned her position Friday.
