SC Philharmonic Receives $20,000 Grant from NEA (Page 81)

Columbia, SC — The South Carolina Philharmonic has been awarded a $20,000 grant by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to support its Family Time with the Phil and Symphony for All programs. These initiatives aim to make live orchestra music more accessible to diverse audiences.

Family Time with the Phil is an inclusive concert-matinee designed for audiences to sing, dance, and enjoy music in a relaxed environment, free from the usual constraints of a live performance. The event is scheduled for March 30, 2025. Symphony for All, another key initiative, brings live music to special education classrooms in public schools.

The NEA’s Grants for Arts Projects program will fund 1,127 projects nationwide, distributing over $31.8 million in fiscal year 2025. “It is inspiring to see the wide range of creative projects taking place, including the South Carolina Philharmonic,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD.

Executive Director Rhonda Hunsinger expressed gratitude for the support, emphasizing the orchestra’s commitment to making music accessible. “We want to increase accessibility for all and can now reach families that otherwise would never have the opportunity to experience the transformative power of live orchestra music,” she said.
