Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Valet Technologies (Page 181)

Thank you for checking out the Valet Tech corner. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us here at Valet Technologies. It has been a fantastic year, and we are wrapping up a flurry of projects with partners needing to spend the money at the last minute, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

If you are online making those last-minute purchases, beware of websites with prices that may be too good to be true. Some may be from links from reputable sources such as Facebook, and those sites can go as soon as they take your money. Buying local is a much safer way protect yourself and keep your money local. Helping local businesses is the best way to help your community with providing jobs for your neighbors and maybe even yourself. This does not just apply to the holidays, but all year long.

As you visit with friends and family over the holidays, please be aware of any comments that may pertain to scams both online, phone, text, etc. Many thieves take advantage of older people being so trusting and will use that trust to steal their hard earned money. These comments may include someone wanting payment in gift cards. The scam is that the person buys gift cards then sends pictures of the card numbers or send the cards themselves. If you hear of sending cash, that is probably the biggest red flag. One partner had their grandmother send a LARGE amount of cash in the mail, because the scammer said they were losing their home and needed the money. The money was recovered at the post office, but another day and it would have been gone. The scammer had gained access to a friend’s social media account and asked for the money. As we connect more and more online, these occurrences will become more frequent.

If you receive notifications about deliveries, go to the website and verify the status instead of clicking on the link from the email. These email notifications are the easy for thieves to capture your account information. The scam is that you click on the link which takes you to a website that looks like the correct site for you to enter your credentials and then the website may come back with a message that there is a problem with the account. While this message is displayed the thieves are getting into your account so please ensure that the address for the website is correct. If you use the same password for multiple accounts, they will be using that information for multiple accounts.

Please enjoy your Christmas, but please keep safe and be vigilant for those around you. Please reach out to us if you have any questions.

Check us out at www.valettech.net, or email us at [email protected], and we will answer your questions. US Based and never press #1 for English.
