It’s amazing to watch the players at The Open hit long drives with such incredible accuracy and distance.
The modern golf swing is much more upright and compact than it was years ago. Combined with strength training in the gym, today’s professionals are able to generate tremendous power while maintaining excellent control.
For seniors, however, the approach should be different. Rather than trying to muscle the ball, focus on developing a longer, freer, and more flexible swing to create additional clubhead speed. Pace yourself over 18 holes, but remember that conserving energy doesn’t mean holding back on every shot.

In the long run, the golfer with the best short game usually comes out on top. Spend more time practicing the part of the game that gives you the greatest opportunity to lower your scores while conserving your energy.
