The Cardinal Newman Middle School Lower won the Next Level volleyball tournament this past weekend at Wilson Hall. It defeated Thomas Sumter and Northside Christian by 2-0 scores. The Upper School placed third in the Gold Division.
The post-season has begun for several fall sports teams in the Northeast Region.
Both Blythewood and Spring Valley finished third and seventh, respectively, at the Class 5A Division I Upper State girls golf tournament Monday at Chester Golf Club.
Ridge View finished outside the qualifying field in 11th place.
Former state champion Caroline Hawkins placed fourth and fellow Lady Bengal Caroline Richardson was 10th in the individuals.
The state tournament takes places Monday and Tuesday at Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg.
VOLLEYBALL
For the second straight year, the Blythewood boys’ team has qualified for the Class 5A Division I playoffs.
The Bengals will await the winner of Tuesday’s first-round matchup between Ridge View and Carolina Forest on Thursday.
The Blythewood girls also have a first-round bye. The Lady Bengals will play host Monday to the winner of Wednesday’s first-round matchup between J.L. Mann and J.F. Byrnes.
Ridge View girls also opened Wednesday at Clover.
TENNIS
The Blythewood girls have a first-round bye. They will play host Tuesday to the winner of Dutch Fork versus J.L. Mann.
Spring Valley has a first-round home matchup Thursday with Clover. In Class 5A Division II, Westwood travels to Conway the same day.
In Class 4A, Richland Northeast travels to Wren Thursday.
