Recognizing many families face increased difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dominion Energy continued its annual Good Neighbor Fund Christmas Project to help those in need across the Midlands.
The 37th annual event at the company’s Cayce operations center looked very different from previous years as volunteers followed recommended safety protocols, including wearing face coverings and practicing social distancing. Employee volunteers distributed about 375 food baskets to Midlands families facing financial or other hardships. Each basket contained roughly 50 pounds of food and was packaged in advance to help minimize contact. Volunteers also wrapped toys for 375 children. They then loaded up personal vehicles and delivered baskets to the recipients.
“We wanted to ensure that every family has a holiday meal and children have presents under the tree,” Good Neighbor Fund board member Annette Burnette said. “It’s part of our values to give back to the community.”
Run by Dominion Energy employees, the Good Neighbor Fund is a nonprofit which provides financial assistance to families who face unexpected tragedies or emergencies. The Christmas Project is the culmination of a year of ongoing activities sponsored by the Good Neighbor Fund through donations from the company’s employees and retirees. All donations go directly to help families who were referred to the program by Dominion Energy employees or retirees.
