The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) has granted permits for the first-ever Crystal Lagoons amenity in the state. Located in northeast Columbia, construction is set to begin in early 2025.

“This approval from DHEC marks a pivotal moment for the Crystal Lagoons project,” said Joseph Baldassarra, president of Broadstreet. “It brings us closer to realizing our vision of a vibrant beach lifestyle community in the Midlands.”

The lagoon will be the centerpiece of Oak Hills, a new community spanning six acres. It will feature a 1.5-acre beach and a three-acre lagoon, surrounded by approximately 2,400 residential lots. Oak Hills will offer single-family homes and townhomes, along with amenities such as tennis courts, a kids’ zone, a wedding peninsula, waterfront restaurants, a retail hub, water sports, and a luxury hotel.

The Crystal Lagoons technology, known for creating crystal-clear lagoons in urban and suburban environments, will provide an idyllic, resort-like setting for residents and visitors alike. This innovative project is being developed by Broadstreet in partnership with Contender Development, with exclusive funding from Blue Lagoon Development LLC.

The Crystal Lagoons at Oak Hills is expected to enhance both quality of life and economic growth in the region.
