It’s been a memorable week so far for Wofford College sophomore pitcher Zac Cowen. With the Terriers needing two wins to claim the Southern Conference championship Sunday, the Blythewood High graduate pitched seven innings and struck out seven in a 10-9 win in Game One over Samford.
Wofford went on to win Game Two to claim the tournament title and earn its second NCAA Division I baseball tournament berth in school history. The Terriers will face LSU in the opening game of the Chapel Hill Regional at noon Friday.
For Cowen’s efforts, he was named to the All-Southern Conference tournament team. On Monday, he received another honor as D1baseball.com Pitcher of the Week.
In two appearances, he struck out 13, allowed five hits and walked two in 13.2 innings. He improved to 9-2 on the season with 118 strikeouts for the third most in a season in Wofford history.
The Terriers enter the postseason with a 41-18 record, the third consecutive season for the program with a 40-plus-win season.
