The coaching staff for American Leadership Academy Blythewood athletics is steadily taking shape.
Over the weekend, the school announced the hiring of Matthew Hornsby as head football coach. Hornsby most recently led Gray Collegiate Academy last season and previously spent three seasons at Dreher High School.

The school also announced the addition of Brandi Thompson as head volleyball coach and Mackenzie Azuero as head coach of the girls’ soccer program. Thompson brings a decade of collegiate coaching experience, while Azuero competed at Presbyterian College from 2019 to 2023.

Daniel Morgan will serve as the school’s athletics director.
ALA Blythewood joins American Leadership Academy Lexington as part of a growing network of charter schools established under the Charter Institute at Erskine. The expansion reflects a broader effort to bring the American Leadership Academy model to South Carolina.
According to its 2023 charter application, the school aims to provide a “moral, wholesome, positive, and clean environment” where students can learn, explore, and reach their individual potential.
