The Northeast area celebrated two state champions at this past weekend’s swimming championships.
At the SCISA Class 4A State Meet held Saturday at the North Charleston Aquatic Center, the Cardinal Newman swim team placed sixth overall. Dylan Murphy earned two third-place finishes — in the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Meanwhile, at the Class 5A Division I State Meet at the University of South Carolina, William Alexander of Spring Valley captured the state title in the 50 freestyle and finished second in the 200 freestyle. Blythewood’s Andres Cubero placed third in the 100 butterfly, while in the girls division, Farrah Ballouli earned second in the 100 freestyle and third in the 50 freestyle.
