Zeke Washington is headed to the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame.
The Blythewood boys’ basketball coach and two-time state champion is one of four inductees in the Class of 2025.
He, Darryl Nance (Wade Hampton), Reggie McLain (W.J. Keenan) and Jackie Roberts (Westside) will be enshrined July 29 during the state South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association Clinic in Greenville. Washington began his coaching career 37 years ago at Branchville High School. He won a region title in his first season and earned Region Coach of the Year.
After a stint at Dreher High School, Washington went to Fairfield Central in 1994 where he led the Griffins to the 1998 Class 3A title. A year later, he became athletics director at Chester and also took over the girls’ basketball program in 2000.
When the Lady Cyclones won the Class 3A title in 2004, Washington joined a list of four head coaches to win state titles in boys and girls basketball. In 2007, Washington became head coach at Lower Richland where he won 20 or more games each year and five straight region titles.
The Diamonds also reached the state semifinals three times under Washington. Since taking over at Blythewood in 2012, Washington has led the Bengals to two state title appearances in 2017 and last season.
For his career, Washington has a record of 538-278 with 14 region titles, two Upper State and two Lower State region titles.
