There’s plenty to cheer around Ridge View football these days.
After a winless start, the Blazers are back on the winning track. This past Friday, they went on the road and defeated ranked and previously undefeated Rock Hill 20-10 for their second straight victory.
Ridge View held the Bearcats to their lowest point total of the season. It also got a fumble recovery TD from Cameryon Crayton returned a fumble for a touchdown and knocked Rock Hill quarterback Jalen Culp out of the game.
On offense, Ridge View quarterback Tre Howard threw a touchdown pass to Kristian Jackson. Placekicker Toby Brooks had two field goals for Ridge View (2-2).
The Blazers were the lone victorious Northeast team in Week 6. Blythewood was defeated by Lexington 28-21 despite two touchdown passes by quarterback James Veasey and a 97-yard kickoff return TD by Derrick Johnson.
Westwood fell 63-21 to undefeated Fort Mill to drop to 0-5 on the season. Spring Valley dropped to 0-6 after losing 42-0 to Class A top-ranked Fairfield Central for its 14th consecutive loss.
In SCISA, Cardinal Newman was shut out 49-0 by Pinewood Prep.
Ridge View players picked for Shrine Bowl
When the post-season ends, Ridge View wide receiver Kristian Jackson and offensive lineman James Ross Jr. will end their high school careers in Spartanburg.
On Sunday, the tandem learned they were chosen to play in the 90th annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas All-Star game. It will take place at noon Dec. 19 at Spartanburg High School.
Blythewood offensive lineman Reed Paolucci was also selected to the Sandlappers’ team.
“Both of these young men are deserving of this great honor,” said Ridge View head coach Derek Howard about his selected players. “Khristian Jackson has been a starter from day one, he’s bought into the process and he has proven himself week in and week out to be an elite wide receiver.
“James Ross has been in our program for two years and throughout that time, his growth has been tremendous. He’s got all the physical characteristics needed to be high-level football player in SEC. He too is deserving of this great honor. The Ridge View community is extremely proud of these young men and will be there to support them as they represent our school.”
