Richland Northeast picked up its second win of the season last Friday.

The Cavaliers defeated Lower Richland 14-7. Linebacker Uriah Hartzog had 11 tackles, an interception and a punt return for a touchdown.  Romen Johnson and Charles Lackey each had eight tackles.

“It was a hard-fought game for both teams,” Cavaliers’ head coach DeMarcus Simons said. “We need to be better as a team. I’m thankful I can put it on my defensive back and squeeze one out there. We didn’t play good on either side of the ball. We’re going to get better.”

Richland Northeast (2-3) returns to action Oct. 2 against Dreher.

Other teams in action last Friday, Blythewood and Cardinal Newman, came out on the losing end. The Bengals fell 38-20 despite 274 total yards and three touchdowns from quarterback James Veasey.

Wide receiver Ayden Glenn caught both touchdown passes by Veasey.

The Cardinals were defeated 40-7 by Augusta Christian. Quarterback Jaxon Holub had the lone score for Cardinal Newman on a touchdown pass to Isaiah Roberts. Q

head to York County

Both Ridge View and Westwood return to action following a bye week with road games up Interstate 77.

The Blazers (1-2) face fourth-ranked Rock Hill (4-0) in a non-region matchup. Ridge View picked up its first win of the season Sept. 11 in a 50-7 win over Nation Ford.

This is the third scheduled York County opponent on the schedule for the Blazers. An anticipated Top 10 matchup with South Pointe was cancelled after bad weather made it difficult for either team to agree on a site or date.

The Bearcats are also well-rested after defeating town rival South Pointe 26-3 on Sept. 11. The all-time series with Ridge View is tied at 2-2 and Rock Hill has lost the last two meetings in 2020 and 2021.

Over at Fort Mill, the Redhawks (0-4) are seeking their first win of the season. Meanwhile, the 4-0 Yellow Jackets are off to their best start since 1983.
