The American Bass Anglers (ABA) and the Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board (CCLMC) have announced that the 2024 American Fishing Tour Championship, originally set for October 6-11 on Lake Murray, has been postponed due to the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene. The tournament has been rescheduled for May 5-9, 2025.

ABA President Morris Sheehan expressed his concern for those affected by the hurricane, stating, “Our thoughts are with the Columbia community and everyone impacted by this disaster. The safety and well-being of the residents, first responders, and our anglers remain our top priority.”

Miriam Atria, President/CEO of CCLMC, added, “We understand the challenges the region is facing and made this difficult decision with respect for the ongoing recovery efforts.”

The American Fishing Tour (AFT), a tournament series tailored for non-professional anglers, will return to Lake Murray, where the first national AFT championship took place in 2000. The postponement ensures fair conditions for participants while paying homage to the event’s legacy.
