East Point Academy Collects 1,200 Pounds of Cheer (Page 243)

Continuing to provide as normal a school year as possible, East Point Academy’s Boyz 2 Men club shifted their attention towards acts of service this holiday season. The members planned a “Who Canned Santa?” carline food drive benefiting Harvest Hope food bank. The innovative set up enabled students to collect the food while maintaining physical distance.

The boys planned each component of the project, from creating posters, and wrapping collection boxes, to delivering the donations. Boyz 2 Men president, Jacob Early, was grateful all the hard work paid off. Reflecting on the experience, Early offered thanks to all who donated, “Through these tough times, people may not have food. I’m thankful for everyone who helped and gave to this food drive.”

Boyz 2 Men participants, along with club sponsor, third grade teacher Terrance Duggan, transported the items to Harvest Hope and learned about the charity. Their event raised over 1,200 pounds of food. Panda parent and Board of Directors Member, Wendy Early was on-site for the weigh in and remarked “Seeing and hearing the excitement and joy on their faces when Harvest Hope announced how many pounds of food they collected was priceless!” Head of School, Mark A. Bounds echoed the sentiments saying “I am so proud of these young men! They are modeling the “P” in our Panda Core Values by ‘Placing an emphasis on service to others.’ Our teachers and students are proving everyday that we can learn and grow together even in the midst of a public health crisis.”

East Point Academy is a highly rated Mandarin Immersion free Public Charter School that provides rigorous academics with a global focus to students from four-year-old kindergarten to eighth grade. It was named the “Best” Charter School by the State Newspaper, “Best” Private or Charter Elementary School in South Carolina by Niche.com. East Point Academy has limited openings for the remainder of the 2020/2021 school year. To learn more, visit www.eastpointsc.org.
