Healthy Learners has announced the hire of Melanie Alphin, who joins the team as a Program Manager for Healthy Learners Midlands. Within this role, Alphin will provide oversight and management of the Healthy Learners Midlands program, as well as serving as a liaison between the school nurses and health care providers.

“I’m so excited to be joining Healthy Learners. As a school nurse, Healthy Learners was my favorite organization to work with. I am ready to help as many children as possible, said Alphin.

She is a native of Columbia and lives in Columbia with her husband and 2 daughters. She is a graduate of Richland One schools and received her BSN from the University of South Carolina.

Alphin has been a practicing Registered Nurse since 2002 with 10 years of experience working inpatient child/adolescent psychiatry and the last 7 years as a school nurse. Alphin became a board-certified school nurse in 2016. She was the State Liaison in South Carolina for the National Board of Certified School Nurses through 2019 and is currently the Treasurer for the South Carolina Association of School Nurses. Additionally, for the first half of the 2018-2019 school year Alphin was recognized for being one of the top referrers to Healthy Learners. 

“Melanie brings an enthusiasm for children’s health and displays a mission minded attitude in her transition into the Program Manager role.
