Because of her outstanding hard work for middle school students, the South Carolina Association for Middle Level Education (SCAMLE) has selected Elizabeth “Betsy” Dew as the 2023 Regional Teacher to Watch for the Lower Midlands Region.

Dew is the lead teacher of the Academy of Exercise Physiology & Sports Medicine, also known as the Get Fit magnet program, at Summit Parkway Middle School.

“It is an honor to represent Richland Two and Summit Parkway Middle as a 2023 SCAMLE Regional Teacher to Watch. Teaching and leading the Get Fit magnet program is my dream job. Being recognized for engaging students and promoting health and wellness is truly a blessing,” said Dew.

Dew is one of seven award recipients to be nominated by peers across the state for their dedication to middle level education. Summit Parkway Middle School Principal April Shell says Dew is passionate about her work and her students excel because of it.

“She is always going above and beyond to teach students and colleagues the importance of good health, and how to achieve and maintain it. She ensures that students around her thrive and achieve their very best,” said Shell.

Dew will be recognized at the SCAMLE Annual Conference March 3-5, 2023 in Myrtle Beach, SC. Summit Parkway Middle School is located at 200 Summit Parkway, Columbia, SC 29229.
