The Lexington Medical Center Foundation is celebrating breast cancer survivors and the people who support them throughout the month of October with a campaign called “Circle of Care.” Community members can make donations to programs that support breast cancer survivors throughout the Midlands as well as honor survivors, caregivers and health care professionals in a photo tribute.
“A cancer diagnosis is life-changing. Yet surrounding the survivors is a circle of care – family, friends and health care providers who support, encourage and guide them along their cancer journey,” said Amy Lanier, executive director of the Lexington Medical Center Foundation. “Our cancer care programs and resources meet many needs and focus on holistic support for our patients.”
Gifts to the Lexington Medical Center Foundation’s Circle of Care will benefit cancer programs and services for patients including 3-D mammography; the Cancer Care Fund, providing in-need patients with financial assistance while they undergo treatment; the Crystal Smith Breast Cancer Fund that provides wigs, mastectomy bras and post-surgical kits; Becky’s Place boutique that helps every woman feel beautiful during cancer treatment; Cancer Care Bags with comfort items for infusion patients as they begin treatment; the Losing Is Not an Option Support Group; the Cancer Resource Room at Lexington Medical Center; the Exercise as Medicine program offering personal training sessions for cancer patients to address physical side effects, reduce recovery time and help with depression and anxiety; and Cancer Transitions, a first-of-its-kind program in the Midlands designed to help survivors move from active treatment to post-treatment care.
Donations can be made in honor or in memory of a survivor, caregiver of health care provider. The campaign also includes an opportunity to post a photo on a tribute wall.
