Local Author Jennifer Rust Releases Debut Memoir Exposing the Pitfalls of MLM

Columbia native Jennifer Rust has published her first book, Dream Not for Sale: How I Chased Riches but Found True Wealth, now available on Amazon.com. The memoir, released on April 29, shares Rust’s personal journey through — and eventual escape from — the world of multi-level marketing (MLM).

A graduate of Irmo High School and resident of Forest Acres since 2016, Rust recounts how she was initially lured by the MLM industry’s promises of quick success and financial freedom. Her book explores the emotional, social, and financial costs she endured, including substantial debt, alienation from friends, and repeated rejection.

“I had a moment of realization after I had turned my life upside down in search of riches,” said Rust. “The secret to true wealth: dreams are a goal to achieve, not a product to purchase.”

She hopes her story can serve as a cautionary tale, especially for loved ones of those caught up in similar schemes. Rust dedicated the memoir to her niece and two nephews, urging readers to learn from her hard-earned lessons.

When she’s not writing, Rust enjoys time with her dog Podrick, traveling, and tomato gardening. She also runs a newsletter, Lighthearted by Jennifer, which she started while working on her latest writing projects.
