Columbia, S.C. – One of the Midlands’ most beloved summer traditions will return Saturday, July 4, 2026, as Lake Murray’s Independence Day Celebration lights up the sky with fireworks launched from Spence Island and Dreher Island.
Hosted by Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board (CCLMC), the annual patriotic event draws thousands of residents and visitors each year to celebrate America’s birthday with family, friends, and scenic views across the lake. The 2026 celebration continues a tradition that brings generations together for an evening of community and summertime memories.
As the nation marks its 250th anniversary, Lake Murray’s Independence Day Celebration will once again unite the region in a showcase of patriotism and Southern hospitality. A rain date is scheduled for Sunday, July 5.
Recognized by Southern Living as one of the “Top 10 Places to Celebrate the 4th of July Like a Local” and named among the “Best July 4th Events Across the South” by StyleBlueprint, the event continues to grow as one of the Southeast’s premier Independence Day experiences.
“This celebration is about more than fireworks—it’s about bringing people together to celebrate the spirit of America, the beauty of Lake Murray, and the traditions that make our region so special,” said Vickie Davis, executive director of CCLMC. “As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, we are proud to welcome families, friends, visitors, and our local communities for an unforgettable evening that showcases the patriotism and togetherness that define our region.”
The event will feature two synchronized fireworks displays over Lake Murray, offering viewing opportunities from across the shoreline and water. Spectators are encouraged to watch by boat, though land-based options will be available at Dreher Island State Park (regular park admission and parking fees apply).
Families seeking another land-based option can attend the fireworks viewing event at Pine Island from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Admission is $25 per vehicle through online registration only, and space is limited.
The fireworks will once again be synchronized to a patriotic soundtrack broadcast live on 93.1 The Lake through Midlands Media Group, creating an immersive experience for spectators. Attendees are encouraged to listen via traditional FM radio, as streaming delays may affect synchronization. For those unable to attend in person, WIS will livestream the show on its website.
Lake Murray’s Independence Day Celebration is made possible through community donations, sponsors, and the ongoing efforts of CCLMC. Funding is generated through Taste of Lake Murray, the organization’s signature fundraiser, which was held March 26, 2026, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Columbia.
Community support remains vital to sustaining and growing the event for future generations. Donations are still being accepted online or in person at the Lake Murray Country Visitors Center.
