Four new firefighters recently joined the Columbia-Richland Fire Department after completing the department’s direct hire program. Each firefighter received their badge from Chief Aubrey Jenkins during a pinning ceremony Monday at department headquarters.
The direct hire program allows candidates with prior experience and the proper certification to begin running calls with the department on a faster track.
Training for program candidates takes about two months. Applicants who are new to fire service are encouraged to apply for the standard training program, which spans about 18 weeks.
