Greetings. Due to the passing of Council Member Calvin “Chip” Jackson of County Council District Nine, Candidate Filing will be opening to nominate a new candidate for the vacant seat.
Candidate filing opened at noon August 18 and will end at noon on August 25.
Filing is open to candidates of all political parties. The filing fee will be $711.10. Interested parties may file at the Richland County Voter Registration and Election Office located at 2020 Hampton Street, Columbia.
If more than one candidate of a party files, a Special Primary Election will be held September 8, and, if necessary, a Special Primary Runoff will be held September 22.
Absentee will open August 31, and end September 5. The hours will be 8:30 am until 5 pm on Monday – Friday. On September 5,the hours will be 9 am -1 pm
Nominees resulting from this process will go on the ballot in November.
