The SC Disability Employment Coalition will host a free employment workshop for individuals with disabilities in West Columbia August 27 from 1:30 – 3:30 pm.
The Disability Benefits & Employment: Make It Work for You event will explore myths of how work affects disability benefits and will be held at SC Works Lexington. Register for the workshop online at http://bit.ly/LexWshop19. The workshop is part of the Hire Me SC campaign, a multi-year, statewide workforce development campaign to change the culture of disability employment.
State and private organizations will be on site to discuss the services they offer to individuals with disabilities who are interested in returning to work or increasing their earnings. After the workshop, a resource fair will be held for individuals to connect directly with community organizations.
“We are committed to educating people about their rights and the services available to support them in meeting their employment goals,” says Sandy Jordan, Director of Employment Programs with Able South Carolina. “70 percent of individuals with disabilities in South Carolina are unemployed, but we know from experience if we eliminate barriers to employment access, these individuals can achieve success and bring value to employers.”
Disability Benefits & Employment: Make it Work for You will be at SC Works Lexington, 671 Main Street, West Columbia. Interested participants can register by visiting http://bit.ly/LexWshop19, calling 1-800-681-6805, or emailing [email protected].
