Undergraduate and graduate students studying American history can apply for a $25,000 scholarship through the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) between Nov. 1 and Jan. 31.
The DAR America 250 Scholarship will award one-time $25,000 scholarships to 10 students in 2026 in recognition of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
“We are so thrilled to expand the America 250 Scholarship in its final year of being awarded in order to be able to offer ten $25,000 scholarships to students,” said Ginnie Sebastian Storage, DAR President General. “We see no better way to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary than with these transformative and life-changing scholarships investing in the development of the next generation of American historians who will study our past and help us understand new aspects of the great American story.”
Each year, DAR awards more than 30 scholarships totaling nearly $250,000 nationwide. However, the America 250 Scholarship represents the largest individual scholarship the organization has ever offered. Awarding the scholarship to 10 separate recipients underscores DAR’s emphasis on the importance of American history education and commemorates the nationwide celebrations planned for 2026.
Students majoring in American history at an accredited college or university during the 2026 academic year—at either the undergraduate or graduate level—are eligible to apply. Applicants must be United States citizens, have a minimum 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale or equivalent, and submit a one-page essay online. Essay topics include either the founding of the nation or the applicant’s personal volunteer achievements in service to community and country.
Applications must be submitted through the DAR online scholarship portal, DAR Academic Works. Students are encouraged to apply well before the Jan. 31 deadline, as official transcripts and letters of recommendation are required and must be submitted by third parties. The portal also provides access to additional DAR scholarships for which applicants may qualify.
