The CNHY Showcase at Cardinal Newman High School saw several Northeast boys and girls basketball teams in action.
The finale of the one-day event saw the host school face Richland Northeast boys. It was a close contest for most of the game before the Cardinals used a 10-2 run to open a 51-43 lead in the fourth quarter.
Elton Smith Jr. scored 12 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter to clinch the 61-53 victory. Luis Echeveria had 13 points and Jason Rogers finished with 11 for the Cardinals.
Reece Jackson had 16 points and L.J. Kennedy and Ethan Ard each had 13 for the Cavaliers.
In an early game, Ridge View was defeated by Lexington 58-44 to snap a 2-game winning streak. Simone Johnson led the Lady Blazers with 15 points and Samaria Smith had 10.
