The Atria at Forest Lake offers a professionally led support group for caregivers whose relatives have Alzheimer’s disease. The group’s next meeting will be at noon December 18. Lunch will be provided at no charge. The Atria is located at 4405 Forest Drive, Columbia.

The guest speaker will be Elizabeth Ford, M.A., LPC. She provides direction, guidance, oversight, and management of the Family Caregiver Advocates at all 10 Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) in South Carolina. In this role, she ensures that services, programs and respite vouchers are provided to seniors and their caregivers across the state. She also manages the Alzheimer’s Resource Coordination Center (ARCC) which was created by statute in 1994. The ARCC is responsible for providing statewide coordination of services to individuals with Alzheimer’s disease as well as their caregivers. The ARCC is currently working on updating the SC Alzheimer’s State Plan. She graduated from Clemson with a B.A. in Social Work and a M.A. in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. She has managed statewide programs in South Carolina for over 14 years. She is a licensed professional counselor in South Carolina and enjoys counseling part-time in private practice.

Atria Forest Lake welcomes anyone in the community who is caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease. Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month at noon. Reservations are advised as space is limited. For directions or more information or to R.S.V.P. call 803-790-9800.
