Jamie L. Devine, a community leader, nonprofit executive, and longtime member of the Richland County School District One Board of School Commissioners, has officially announced his candidacy for Richland County Council, District 4.
He has more than a decade of leadership in shaping public education policy and community development.
“Richland County is at a pivotal moment, and I believe our community deserves leadership that listens, collaborates, and delivers results. At the intersection of residential and commercial identity, District 4 represents the epitome of the phrase ‘live, work, and play.’ My experience in education and nonprofit leadership has prepared me to advocate for stronger neighborhoods, economic opportunity, and a higher quality of life for all residents of District 4,” said Devine. “I am proud of our accomplishments while serving on the Richland One School Board. We have strengthened community partnerships and created opportunities for all students and stakeholders. Now, I’m ready to bring that same collaborative, solutions-oriented approach to the County Council – where we can address infrastructure, public safety, economic opportunity, and quality of life across District Four.”
First elected to the Richland One Board of School Commissioners in 2008, Devine has guided the district through growth and expansion, challenges and observations, and strategic improvements in education. Throughout his tenure, he has held leadership roles and worked to advance student achievement and strengthen community engagement. His influence extends statewide through his service with the South Carolina Boards Association, where he has contributed to broader conversations about education policy and leadership.
In addition to his public service in education, Devine serves as President and CEO of Community Assistance Provider, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to safe, affordable housing and fostering economic opportunity for individuals and families across multiple counties in South Carolina.
A graduate of Benedict College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English, Devine remains deeply rooted in the Midlands through his ongoing involvement in civic, faith-based, and community initiatives. He resides in downtown Columbia with his wife, South Carolina State Senator Tameika Isaac Devine, and their three children.
