110,000-square-foot outdoor retailer expected to create more than 120 jobs
Bass Pro Shops plans to open a 110,000-square-foot retail store on Broad River Road in Irmo in late 2027, bringing a major outdoor recreation destination to the greater Columbia area.
The Missouri-based retailer announced the project Oct. 15. The new store will be located about three miles from Lake Murray, a popular destination for boating, fishing and other outdoor activities.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Bass Pro Shops to the Town of Irmo” said Irmo Town
Administrator Jim Crosland. “This is an exciting investment in our community that will bring new shopping opportunities for residents and attract visitors from all over who can also discover our local businesses, restaurants, and parks.”
The Irmo location will be Bass Pro Shops’ fourth destination retail store in South Carolina. The company expects to employ more than 120 people, known as Outfitters, to assist customers with their outdoor recreation needs. Job openings will be posted at basspro.com/careers when available.
“We’re proud to become part of that tradition,” said Johnny Morris, Bass Pro Shops founder, noting Lake Murray’s reputation for bass fishing and the region’s generations of families who enjoy the outdoors together.
The Irmo location will mark Bass Pro Shops’ fourth destination retail location in South Carolina and further strengthen the company’s commitment to serving customers across the Palmetto State. Conveniently located in the heart of South Carolina, the Irmo destination will offer a wide selection of quality products at the best prices around, backed by the genuine, friendly expert service Bass Pro Shops is known for.
The Midlands region of South Carolina is steeped in a rich outdoor heritage, offering abundant opportunities for fishing. The area has hosted many of the sport’s premier events, including Major League Fishing and Bassmaster competitions, and serves as a gathering place for generations of anglers, boaters and outdoor enthusiasts.
The store will feature a custom design celebrating the region’s conservation heritage and outdoor traditions. Bass Pro Shops locations are designed to provide an immersive retail experience that encourages visitors to explore fishing, hunting, camping and hiking.
Conservation also remains a central part of the company’s mission. Bass Pro Shops said it has donated more than 10% of its earnings over the past decade to conservation efforts in local communities and across North America. Customers can also support conservation through the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Outdoor Fund by rounding up purchases at checkout or online.
The company’s Legendary Salute Program offers a 10% discount on almost everything at its U.S. and Canadian locations to veterans, active-duty military personnel, law enforcement officers, firefighters and state fish and wildlife agency employees.
In January 2026, Newsweek named Bass Pro Shops “America’s Most Trusted Outdoor Retailer” for the fifth consecutive year. The publication also recognized the company as one of “America’s Most Admired Workplaces.”
The new Bass Pro Shops in Irmo will honor the region’s rich conservation legacy through a completely unique custom design created specifically for the Columbia market. Every Bass Pro Shops location is designed as a tribute to the region it serves.
“We look forward to building a strong partnership with Bass Pro Shops as Irmo continues to grow while preserving the small-town character that makes our community special,” said Crosland.
The store is expected to open in late 2027.
