Senior Resources is in need of volunteers to deliver hot meals to Meals on Wheels clients in Richland County. Meals on Wheels provides meals to elderly, frail, and home-bound residents at lunchtime five days a week by volunteers. The Meals on Wheels program relies heavily on student groups from local universities, and with students officially on winter break, there is a greater need for volunteer assistance.

The staff at Senior Resources will provide training on safe methods for contactless delivery that will protect both the volunteer and the homebound senior receiving the meal. All volunteers are required to wear a mask. The daily delivery from the volunteer not only delivers a hot meal, but also serves as a wellness check, and a continued connection to the community through a friendly interaction with the Meals on Wheels client.

Volunteers are needed at the following meal distribution sites:

1. Spring Valley Presbyterian Church, 125 Sparkleberry Lane, Columbia, SC 29229. Pickup for delivery is 10:45 – 11:45 am

2. Senior Resources main office, 2817 Millwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29205. Pickup for delivery is 10:45 – 11:45 am

3. Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1715 Broad River Road, Columbia, SC 29210. Pickup for delivery is 10:45 – 11:45 am

Is your business, church or organization group looking for a service project for the holidays? Senior Resources has 12 Blitzes of Christmas running December 1 – 23. Sign up your group or business for a Meals on Wheels volunteer blitz and help fill all 12 Blitzes of Christmas.

Volunteers are welcome on a one-time or ongoing basis. A volunteer shift takes 1-2 hours from pick-up to delivery. Interested volunteers go to https://bit.ly/SRIVolunteer and fill out an application.
