The Blythewood Garden Club is excited to announce their Annual Community Education Event, scheduled for March 21, 2024, at the Blythewood High School Media Center, starting at 6:30 p.m.

The featured speaker for this event is Bill Stangler, the Congaree Riverkeeper since 2011. Bill has dedicated years of service under the River Alliance, a non-profit organization committed to maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the 90 miles of the Midlands’ three rivers for drinking water and recreation.

In his role as Riverkeeper, Bill focuses on “Providing Education, Advocacy, and the Enforcement of Environmental Laws.” His responsibilities cover the Saluda River from the Lake Murray Dam to its confluence with the Broad River, as well as the entire Congaree River from the Broad River’s confluence to Parr Shoal.

Bill Stangler has been instrumental in inspiring individuals and groups to join efforts in cleaning up the Riverbanks. His work involves identifying and preventing illegal leaks, leading successful legal actions to protect environmental laws, and advocating for the well-being of the river.

This educational event is open to the public, and everyone is welcome to attend. For additional information, please contact 803-730-3855. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about the important efforts to preserve and protect our local rivers.
