The South Carolina State Museum is marking the 10th anniversary of its “Windows to New Worlds” expansion with a special 2-for-1 ticket offer every Saturday in August. Guests can enjoy two planetarium or 4D theater shows for the price of one, making it the perfect time to explore the museum’s immersive experiences.

“This August marks the 10th anniversary of the opening of the museum’s observatory, planetarium, and 4D theater,” said State Museum Executive Director Amy Bartow-Melia. “We are so excited to celebrate this milestone and look forward to guests visiting and enjoying these amazing shows.”

Featured Shows:

  • Solar Superstorms (Planetarium): Narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch, this show takes viewers into the Sun’s magnetic fields and superhot plasma, showcasing dramatic flares, solar tornadoes, and coronal mass ejections. The experience includes scientific visualizations computed on the Blue Waters supercomputing initiative.

  • Turtle Odyssey 4D: Follow Bunji, a baby Australian green sea turtle, as she grows into adulthood while navigating the dangers of the ocean. Encounter sharks, octopuses, whales, and more in this immersive 4D journey.

The South Carolina State Museum has been a hub of exploration since the opening of its BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Planetarium, the Rev. Dr. Solomon Jackson, Jr. 4D Interactive Theater, and a state-of-the-art Observatory in 2014. Over the past decade, nearly 500,000 planetarium tickets have been sold, and the Observatory has welcomed 420,000 guests, including 41,000 students and educators.

Ticket Information:

  • General Admission: $13 for adults, $11 for seniors, $10 for children ages 3-12. Infants 2 and under are free.
  • Planetarium and 4D Shows: Tickets are an additional charge. Every Saturday in August, shows are discounted to 2 for 1 (or $5 for two shows).
