Did you feel it? A minor earthquake was recorded early Tuesday morning near Elgin, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The 2.2-magnitude earthquake struck at approximately 6:30 a.m., marking the first recorded earthquake in South Carolina for 2026. The tremor was felt by residents across several areas, though its impact was brief.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that more than 160 earthquakes have been recorded in South Carolina since 2022, highlighting continued low-level seismic activity in the region.

No damage or injuries were reported as a result of Tuesday’s earthquake.
