The family will receive friends on Friday, December 11, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home Northeast Chapel on Hardscrabble Road.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Pawmetto Lifeline or Blythewood High School Education Foundation, John S Ducate Engineering Scholarship.

He was Founder and CEO of the Ducane Company.

John is survived by his loving wife, Anne Livingston Ducate, and children, John Robert Ducate (Mary), Dianne McConegly (John), Peggy DeMasi, Carole Johnson (Scott), Susie Roder (Doug) and Pepper Busbee (Glen).  John was the proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Robert Ducate, son-in-law Richard DeMasi, 3 brothers, and an infant sister.

His family is very proud of his many accomplishments and profound influences on his community. He was recognized by his beloved Gamecocks, with an honorary doctorate in engineering from the University of South Carolina, and in addition, holds an honorary chair in the University’s College of Engineering.  In the spirit of giving back and promoting others, he has served as a member of the Palmetto Health Foundation, a lifetime member of the Lutheran Men in Mission, and was a charter member of Living Springs Lutheran Church.

His most defining attributes were his love of God, Country and family.  He was a veteran of World War II, serving proudly in the US Army. Staunch in his political ideologies, he envisioned a country where everyone has the same opportunities that blessed his life.  He remained adamant that America sits at a critical juncture. His prayer was that our citizens would bring back a return to greatness.  Finally, he never wavered in his faith that all things are possible through Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior.
