A common issue many golfers face, especially seniors, is taking the club too far inside on the backswing. Often, this stems from an overemphasis on swinging from the inside during the downswing. This approach can lead to a short, flat swing plane, which frequently results in looping over the top to make contact with the ball.

The solution? Study the pros. Even without an expensive simulator, watching top players on TV during tournaments can be incredibly informative. Notice how their swings differ:

  • Backswing Path: The club starts back on a much straighter path.
  • Hand Position: At the top of their backswing, their hands are higher.
  • Arm Alignment: The left arm aligns on a plane pointing toward the ball.

This technique not only improves accuracy but also adds distance to your shots.

A practical tip: Have someone take a picture or video of your swing. Compare it to the pros you’ve observed. Adjusting your backswing to mimic their straighter path and higher hand position could transform your game.

Happy golfing!
